]]>When we think about technology, particularly our digital devices, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. The first “smartphone” launched back in 1992, and was quickly followed by a multitude of other digital devices including the first ever Palm PDA, and the Blackberry with its famous track ball. But it wasn’t until the iPhone launched in 2007 that “smartphones” hit the masses. The proliferation of these devices into our everyday lives was something that most of us didn’t think to question, especially as more and more advancements emerged with better, more addicting features.
Cut to today and most of us have come to not only rely on our smartphones, but many of us have multiple devices that we use daily or weekly. In fact, 80 percent of Americans check their phones within the first 30 minutes of waking up, and then go on to spend an average of over 4 hours on their phones every day (which amounts to about 56 days every year). We used to think that spending time mindlessly scrolling through our phones was a good way to decompress after a long day, but in reality, we are learning that this dependency on our devices is only causing us to be more anxious and even depressed.
For many people the last thing they associate with health and wellness is our digital devices, but in fact, it’s these devices that can have a major impact on our overall health.
With meditation and mindfulness practices becoming all the rage over the last few years, we are starting to see much more of an emphasis being put on improving our mental health, and yet, we don’t realize that the devices we check more than 50 times per day can oftentimes be the very thing causing stress and unhappiness.
Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to lean even heavier into our digital devices as our life lines to the world outside of our homes. However, as “Zoom fatigue” becomes even more widespread, this increase in our screen time over the last year has made a lot of us take a step back and evaluate our digital health practices. As Catherine Price puts it, “The problem isn’t smartphones themselves. The problem is our relationships with them. Smartphones have infiltrated our lives so quickly and so thoroughly that we have never stopped to think about what we actually want our relationships with them to look like–or what effects these relationships might be having on our lives.”
As more studies and research emerge, we are starting to understand the direct link between our screen time practices and our mental health. Research shows that employing a digital detox can not only help people focus on the real priorities in their lives, but it can also have a positive impact on their mental health. The irony is that two thirds of American adults agree that the occasional digital detox would be good for their mental health, however, barely a quarter of those people have actually done it.
The problem is that our phones are actually meant and designed to addict us. With a constant barrage of notifications, they are constantly demanding our attention and then designed in a way to increase the dopamine levels in your brain which makes us feel rewarded. To make it worse, social media apps like Facebook came along that only sucked us in even further. For many app builders, the goal is to keep people glued to their screens, using neuroscience and other tools to discourage you from closing out the app.
Albeit the lure of TikTok, Instagram and other “addicting” apps are always going to be there, it’s important to take agency in our usage of these apps and step away from our devices every once in a while. Whether that’s taking a 5 minute break twice a day, or even taking a whole day to step away from your devices, there are many ways to do a digital detox, and it’s important to start making this part of your weekly routine.
Although the phrase “digital detox” can sound a little dramatic, the concept is actually very simple, and best of all, it’s super easy to do and can produce very positive results! A digital detox really refers to a period of time during which a person refrains from using electronic devices such as smartphones or computers. It’s regarded as an opportunity to reduce stress and focus on social interaction in the physical world.
Taking the time to understand your personal screen time habits is the first step on the journey to better digital health. Tools that show you your screen time average each day or week is a great place to start so you can get a baseline and learn where you can start to improve. From there, you can go a step deeper to understand what apps you’re spending the most time on and why, which can help you be more mindful of how and when you’re using your phone. For example, knowing that you’re spending 30 minutes each day checking email on your phone, but in turn spending three hours each day scrolling through your social media feeds, can help you be more mindful next time you go to open up your Twitter app.
Using features like Life Mode on Palm, or even Airplane Mode, can help reduce the distractions of your smart devices. When you can silence the constant barrage of notifications, you can better focus on your tasks at hand, whether that’s getting work done, enjoying some family time, or venturing outdoors.
If you want to take your digital decluttering to the next level, you should consider investing in a minimalist phone that was made to keep you connected, but not consumed. A small but fully functional smartphone like Palm is designed to keep you connected without all the extra distractions that usually come with bigger phones. It’s a great solution for people who want to have a healthier relationship with their digital world.
Beyond being a feature on Palm, Life Mode is all about living a better, more balanced life by employing mindful behaviors to our overall health and wellness patterns. It’s a way to not only think about our health and wellness goals, but also a way to view a holistic approach to general wellness that puts real life first, starting with our own personal health journeys.

]]>Since we relaunched Palm in 2018, our brand has stood for curbing tech addiction, encouraging a healthy digital detox, and ultimately living your best life outside of screens. We use the term Life Mode to encapsulate these sentiments, but since then it’s grown to mean so much more than just reducing screen time – it’s really about connecting with what matters most to us in life.
Our relationships and reliance on mobile tech has advanced so rapidly that we never stopped to think about the effect it was having on us. We’ve become so closely tied to our mobile devices that we haven’t really had the chance to take a step back and look at how living in this digital world is affecting our physical, relational, emotional and mental health. Of course, a world-wide pandemic hasn't helped curb this addiction and has only forced us to lean even heavier into technology to stay connected while sheltering-in-place.
If we can find any positives from COVID-19, it’s that we’ve been reminded that it’s more important than ever to find our Life Mode moments and reconnect with who and what we love the most. We at Palm want to help you on your journey towards healthier digital habits and beyond.
Life Mode Journey
At Palm, we set out on a mission to help people rethink their relationships with their mobile devices. We want people to feel as though they are the ones in control of what gets their time and attention - not apps that seem to constantly ping, ding and ring, forcing us to pay attention to them.
Simply put, smartphones have not just changed how we communicate, they’ve changed how we work, eat, sleep, date, travel, learn, play, workout and so much more. They’ve ultimately changed how we live! That’s why we created Palm, and Life Mode on Palm, so that we can start putting our real lives first with technology that helps us to still stay connected, but not consumed.
We spend so much time on our digital devices without really thinking about the impact they have on our mental health, emotional health and even our physical health. With mental health being a big focus for many today, we often don’t think about how the tool we’ve come to rely on so heavily can also be the cause of so much of our unhappiness. Studies show how the dopamine index in our brains changes with the amount of screen time we have, which can often result in a negative impact on mental health. Although the concept of a digital detox may sound unrealistic or unappealing, when we better understand how our mobile devices can impact us, we can also learn to be more intentional with how and when we use them.
We also know that our mental health is very closely tied to our emotional and relational health, with studies showing that reducing our time spent on social media to 30 minutes a day can significantly reduce depression and loneliness. Seeing these clear connections allow us to consciously make healthier choices and employ better habits when using our digital devices. As psychotherapist Esther Perel puts it, “Mental health is deeply influenced by relational health—ultimately it’s the quality of your relationships that determines the quality of your life.”
The problem is that tech can often distract us from our goals as screen time overtakes gym time, sleep time, or family time, with more than 80 percent of Americans reporting that they keep their phones near them "almost all the time". This time spent stuck behind our screens means time not spent outside moving around. Our phones can be great tools for workouts, bike rides, meditation, etc., but the vast majority of screen time itself is spent idle. While fitness apps can be great motivators during workouts and physical activities, they don’t do us any good if we just spend our time on Instagram or YouTube instead of sweating it out at the gym.
These are the moments when Life Mode comes into play – not just as a feature on our Palm smartphone, but also a good reminder to put your notifications on hold, and put your health and wellness first and foremost.
Going Beyond Screen Time
Life Mode started out being a focus on reducing screen time and improving overall digital health, but it has since evolved to mean so much more. Life Mode is about living a better, more balanced life - as both a state of mind and a state of wellbeing. It’s a way for us to look at our overall health and wellness patterns, efforts and goals, employing mindful and intentional behaviors with our digital devices and beyond.
From meditation and yoga, fitness and cycling, sleep and hydration (and much more) we use Life Mode as a way to put overall health and well being first, and it starts with your very own personal health journey. If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it’s that we need to pay more attention to our real life relationships, especially the relationship with ourselves. Employing self-care practices that add value to our lives vs. distracting ourselves on our phones , is not just one of the latest health trends, but an important goal for us all to start working toward.
Expanding from digital health into better eating, ensuring healthy sleep habits, simple skincare routines, talk therapies and physical fitness, our Life Mode ethos can help change the way we approach our physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. We encourage you to seek out your Life Mode moments that will reduce stress rather than induce stress.
Start Your Life Mode Journey
Life Mode is reflected in everything we do. We aren’t saying that all screen time is bad, nor is it always hurtful, but rather, it’s about being more mindful and intentional with how and when we are using our devices. Life Mode is an ethos and way to view a holistic approach to general wellness that puts real life first, starting with our own personal health journeys.
Even if you don’t own a Palm, we are here to help you on your journey to Life Mode - starting first with your digital health. Follow us on social and our blog where we will be sharing tips and tricks for being more mindful with our screen time and our health in general. ]]>But, our mobile devices can certainly get in the way of our fandom if we aren’t careful. Mobile distraction is a huge problem in stadiums where fans often spend more time looking at their phones than they do looking at the play (back when fans were still allowed in stadiums). The problem carries over onto the couch—we all have that friend who spends all of Sunday DMing his fantasy football group rather than actually watching any of the games.
Our very own Stephen Curry has even spoken out about how helpful it is for him to disconnect from his digital world every once in a while. For Stephen, reducing digital distractions means more focus on training with his teammates and spending more quality time with his family and friends, and even goes on a social media “blackout” during the playoffs. During a recent event Palm hosted with Stephen, he explained how the Warriors decided to implement a new rule where players aren’t allowed to be on their phones in the locker room. “We are very purposeful around creating these types of moments where we can engage and connect on a very personal level,” said Curry.
While most of us will never compete in an NBA Championship, we can all agree that putting down our phones down during physical activities can help us get more out of them. But, Stephen isn’t the only high profile athlete who has talked about the importance of disconnecting. Hear from these athletes and fitness experts highlighting the importance of eliminating digital distractions:
Heather Eastman, Professional Strength and Conditioning Trainer, explains how bringing your phone to the gym can be particularly counterproductive. “Rest time between sets and workout focus are vital components of your training program, and an addiction to your phone impairs both.”
Tariq Owens, Texas Tech basketball player talks about how banning smartphones the night before games helped his underdog team make it all the way to the 2019 NCAA Final Four. “Just to be able to get away from it, just live in the moment, feels great... We’re locked into more important things than cell phones.”
Lebron James, also takes a break from social media during the playoffs. "You have to keep the main thing the main thing… When the postseason happens, it's one game at a time. That's all that matters. The outside noise doesn't matter."
Mike Leach, Head Coach of Washington State University football team, explains that he banned his players from posting on social media for the 2nd half of the 2019 season so that they could focus on winning football games. “If I had it to do over again, I would’ve done it when we started camp. I think we’re a little too distracted right now, but I think there is a team-wide determination to be less distracted.”
Speaking of avoiding distractions, there’s a pretty big football game going on this Sunday, and whoever you’re rooting for, the Big Game is bound to be exciting. To help all of us enjoy a distraction-free game, we put together a list of 10 reasons to watch the Big Game, and not your phone this Sunday:
Even if you don’t care who wins or loses, just enjoy the game without any distractions – you’ll have plenty of time to check your emails on Monday.
In order to help you get on your digital health game this year, Palm is now on sale for just $255, plus we're giving away a free portable battery with all Palm purchases through Monday. Get yours today!

2020 didn’t quite turn out the way we thought it would. Just like many of you, heading into the year, we had big plans for our company, including hosting more in-person events. Unfortunately, we all know how that went.
However, at Palm, we believe that this year, we have all learned to appreciate the things and people we all have in our life. Connecting with everyone we love in our lives, and making sure that that connection remains strong and steadfast, is very important. At the heart of Palm, we are a connection company. It’s what we do. We connect people to what most to all of us. We facilitate life’s most important moments, and put an emphasis on our real lives over our digital ones.
At Palm, we feel blessed to have not only grown our #PalmCrew, but also our dedication to providing a helping hand and giving back throughout the year has made a great impact to those who may have any setbacks. Starting in April, we created a giveback program to support people who needed a break - from frontline workers, to people who had just lost their jobs, to families in need. We then teamed up with Teach For America to help keep local teachers in Miami connected safely while navigating going back to school. Then we partnered with Stephen Curry and World Central Kitchen to donate meals to food insecure families across the Bay Area. And finally, we teamed up with Stephen again to donate profits from our Stephen Curry Golf Bundle to Howard University’s Golf Endowed Fund.
As we look back at the year, we realize how much the pandemic has changed not only our everyday lives, but also its impact on our mobile behavior. Are we on our phones more now that most of us are stuck inside? Or have we been too busy to waste time on our phones, juggling remote learning, remote work and remote playtime?
In order to understand this better, we sent out a customer survey to hear what Palm owners had to say about how they are using Palm, and we got some pretty interesting responses. Of course, we wanted to share it with you, so, here’s how you used Palm in 2020:
Most people bought Palm for themselves (about 94%), but about 6% of you bought Palm as a gift for a family member or a child. With all of the holidays deals we have going on, we’ve made it easy and affordable to give the gift of Palm this holiday season.
About 54% of you use Palm as your primary phone, and about 12% of you use Palm as your second or backup smartphone. Another 34% of you use Palm as a companion device to your big phone.
Most of you bought Palm because you wanted a smaller smartphone, but 30% of you said you purchased Palm because you wanted to be on your phone less. Another 32% of you said you bought Palm for your fitness activities, including running, cycling, hiking and going to the gym.
About 36% of you regularly use Palm for various fitness activities. We don’t blame you, Palm’s 3.8” size makes it the perfect device for every activity.
One of the best things about Palm is how customizable it is to fit your specific lifestyle, however, there are some common activities that most people use Palm for. Here are the top 5:
With access to the full Google Play Store, our #PalmCrew is using apps across every category - from banking and gaming, to fitness and home security. Here are the top 10 apps you guys use on Palm:
With over 20+ accessories available for Palm, it’s fun to see all the different ways you dress up your Palm and make it yours. In 2020, here are the top accessories you bought for your Palms:
About 45% of you use Life Mode on a regular basis. When set up, it really helps to reduce screen time so you can live in the moment without constant distractions and notifications. Get tips for using Life Mode here.
With lightning fast LTE and Bluetooth capabilities, Palm lets you stream anytime, anywhere. And you guys certainly did! From music to podcasts to video, Palm users did a LOT of streaming on Palm in 2020 and was in fact one of the top activities on Palm. YouTube was once again one of the top apps used on Palm this year, along with music apps like Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music being some of the top downloads along with other content streaming apps like Audible and other podcast apps.
This year was hard for everyone, but YOU, our #PalmCrew, did a lot of giving back! Between helping us get the word out about our donation program and nominating people in need, to helping keep teachers connected, to providing meals for hungry families, you stepped up every time we asked. We couldn’t be more grateful to have such amazing customers, and we look forward to continuing to do our part in giving back in 2021.
We want to thank everyone who participated in our customer survey as it helps us understand how to make Palm even better moving forward. We want to hear more from you! Tell us your Palm story here.
We hope you’ve enjoyed using Palm in 2020, as we at Palm wish you and yours a happy holiday. Here’s to a fantastic and healthy 2021!

]]>Even the smallest of things can make a big difference. We knew that when we created Palm. Measuring only 3.8”, Palm is truly the perfect stocking stuffer. Although, the size of our Palm smartphone is not always easy to showcase. We tell people it’s about the size of a credit card, but until you hold a Palm for yourself, it’s hard to understand just how small and sleek it is. Although the small size isn’t always ideal for every situation (looking at you gamers), we find that our 3.8” phone is actually one of our best features.
Palm is discreet so you can focus on your task at hand. Looking to start a conversation? Palm is a great conversation starter, it is sure to get people to ask you, “is that a phone?”. With Palm keeping you connected this holiday, you can rest assured that you won’t be missing out on life’s most important moments.
Palm can fit into any pocket (including the coin pocket of your jeans) bag or purse, so you can take it with you no matter what your holiday plans are. With Life Mode turned on, you can make sure that you’re not being interrupted when opening gifts, chatting with friends and family, going to that drive-in movie theater, or even when cooking a holiday feast. Plus with access to the entire Google Play store and two cameras, you don’t have to sacrifice functionality or using your favorite apps. You’re also able to use Palm with just one hand, making it perfect for those times when you’re on the go.
To help give our readers a better sense of just how small Palm is, we’ve compiled some photos of Palm next to some familiar holiday decorations. Truly a perfect stocking stuffer, Palm is actually smaller than most Christmas tree ornaments! Check it out:
We want to see YOUR photos of Palm! Post your photos of Palm next to your favorite holiday decor for a chance to be featured on our social channels and included in a blog post. Be sure to tag us @Palm and add #PalmPhone and #PalmCrew to your post. We can’t wait to see your pics!

]]>We’ve made it! We’re officially nearing the finish line of a long and exhausting year, and now the most wonderful time of the year is officially upon us. The time of year that implores each of us to slow down and take inventory of our lives and relationships; when we should all take pause to give thanks and be grateful for everyone who has touched our lives, and take that extra step to reach out to let those folks know just how much we love and appreciate them.
Although the tradition of gift giving may look a little different this year, it’s important to remember that a true gift is something that’s given freely. Something that is meaningful. Something that enhances your personal connections. Palm is all about connection and helping to facilitate and prioritize our relationships.
As we all still grapple with the trauma of 2020 and still trying to understand this worldwide pandemic, it’s even more important than ever this holiday to stay connected to the ones we love. For many, the holidays are the most joyous time of the year simply because everyone is together, and even though many of us are choosing to stay home this holiday, smartphones give us the ability to still spend quality time catching up and celebrating virtually.
Let’s get back to using our phones the way they were originally intended: to connect with each other. Palm was built for exactly this, with life in mind, knowing that there is a time and a place for being connected, as well as a time for putting real life first. You can turn on Life Mode when it’s time to open presents, and turn it off when it’s time to call grandma and grandpa. Palm’s small size allows you to bring it with you in any pocket, bag or purse, but it’s sleek yet simple design is also a big conversation starter.
We’ve also made it easy to stay connected for a price that won’t break the bank. Palm is not only affordable (especially with our amazing holiday sales going on now!). We also made it easy to stay connected for an affordable price, with our data plans starting as low as $5/month. From parents who need to learn how to turn off work at the end of the day, to upgrading grandma or grandpa from their flip-phone, or even buying your kid their first smartphone, Palm makes a great gift for anyone on your list this year.
This holiday, get your loved ones the best gift you can get - the gift of connection. Shop our holiday sales going on now, and be sure to check back for our Black Friday sale on November 27. We promise it’s one you won’t want to miss, with the best prices on an unlocked Palm EVER!

The holiday season is always a part of the year when people put aside time to give back. Whether that is in the form of volunteering in their community, donating time and money, or even making sure to be there for friends and family that need it most. We talk a lot about size at Palm, so it should come as no surprise when we say, whatever your form of giving back is, no matter how small, the act of doing something for others is always a big act of kindness. It is more critical than ever this year to give back. With many people losing their job, some even a loved one due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s time for us to stand up and help others.
Over the course of this year, Palm helped to provide connection to those that were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in April during the height and beginning of the pandemic, Palm donated Palm smartphones to frontline workers that were risking their lives every day helping everyone in hospitals, clinics, and beyond. We also donated Palm phones to others that reached out to us explaining their need. Some who had lost their jobs and means of income because of COVID and others who just needed an extra device to keep their job afloat.
Palm continued its give-back for the year with a partnership with Teach for America which launched in advance of this school year. We encouraged people to join us in support by purchasing a Palm for a teacher that is part of the Teach for America program in Miami-Dade this school session.
Kicking off this week and just in time for Thanksgiving, Palm teamed up with Stephen Curry and made a pledge to donate up to 300 meals to World Central Kitchen, an organization dedicated to feeding needy families around the Bay Area and beyond. To date, their COVID-19 response has provided over 30 million meals in more than 400 cities. Their work doesn’t just feed those in need, but it is also keeping restaurants working and open during challenging times. Learn more about their work here.
You can join us in supporting this great cause by purchasing one of our bundles that are on sale now, Palm will donate three meals to help feed the families in the Bay Area, up to 300 meals.
A quote from Martin Luther King Jr. comes to mind when thinking about giving back, “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” So, no matter how small you think your act of kindness is, remember that it could have a greater impact on someone’s life. Our holiday campaign this year is themed around “dreaming a little dream.” Palm encourages us all to keep dreaming because sometimes it’s the small ones that mean the most.
Throughout the next few weeks, we will be featuring influential people who had a dream, who regardless of their size, defied the odds, and accepted the challenge given to them to bring their dreams into existence. To coincide with the campaign, on November 13th, we will be kicking off our first “Dream a Little Dream” giveaway. We know that most dreams may start small, but to get them started, they all require a connection. Those connections made can sometimes help make dreams come true and provide greater impact. This year, we want to help you follow your dreams with the power of Palm.
We want to hear from you for a chance to win two Palm smartphones. Tag @Palm on any social platform by either commenting on our giveaway post, submitting an IG story and tagging us, or simply tag @Palm in your post. Be sure to include the hashtag #DreamALittleDream, then tag a friend with who you want to share this dream, and on Monday, Nov. 16th, we will be awarding a lucky winner and friend with their very own Palm.
]]>This year, we want you to Dream a little Dream with Palm.
At Palm, we are no stranger to thinking that even the small of things can achieve greatness - take Palm for example. We are a small team of 8 employees, creating a movement for people who want to take more ownership over what gets their time and attention in life, and not allowing screen time to control our free time.
Our small but mighty smartphone can do anything the big phones can do today. The difference? Palm’s premium design is sleek, simple, intuitive and not to mention SMALL. Its form factor allows you to slip it into any pocket or any clutch without weighing you down. The budget-friendly price of Palm, along with our low-cost data plans with US Mobile means you can stay connected for a price you can actually afford.
This holiday, no dream is too little to go after.

We've teamed up with World Central Kitchen (WCK) because of their incredible mission to use the power of food to heal communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. During the COVID-19 pandemic, WCK has activated thousands of restaurants and kitchens to feed marginalized and vulnerable communities and our brave medical professionals on the front lines. Learn more about World Central Kitchen and their important efforts here.
Even with this small gesture of donating meals with each purchase of a Palm Bundle, together we can make a difference. Because it doesn’t matter how small you are, it’s all about what you believe you can do, knowing that sometimes the smallest one in the game, is the one that surprises us all.

]]>Understanding this trend, we made voice activation a big part of Palm because it is usually the fastest and easiest way to get things done on the go. Typing just isn’t the fastest way to send a text or search the web these days. According to one study, most of us scroll, swipe, or tap our phone over 2,500 times in a single day. That’s not just a shocking amount of touches, it is a considerable amount of time being unnecessarily wasted.
With voice activation on Palm, you can access things quickly and easily. We built Palm full of quick actions so that you’re not spending a ton of time scrolling through to find the app you’re looking for. Voice is just another way we enable you to access features faster on your Palm.
Getting comfortable with Palm’s voice activation is an immediate way that you can reduce the amount of minutes you spend looking down at the screen. Your voice-enabled Palm can instantly connect you to all your favorite apps and features.
There are two ways to access voice search on Palm. If your screen is on, then simply say, “OK Google” to access Google Assistant.
Alternatively, you can double press Palm’s side button to access voice search.
You can make calls, send texts, access your favorite podcasts or playlists and much more all by using voice on Palm.
This year, Palm wants to help YOU use your voice to vote! With Palm, you can find your local polling station, call for a rideshare to get you there, and #LifeMode will make sure you can vote uninterrupted.
Don’t have a Palm? Save $70 on an unlocked Palm today, or check out one of our Palm + Accessory Bundles, starting at $299.
This November 3, #UseYourVoice and vote!
]]>At Palm, we have always believed that your voice is a powerful tool. It has the power to change someone’s day, to influence, to educate, to lift up, to inspire. With this being undoubtedly the most important United States election of the 21st Century, we can no longer passively sit back and expect others to determine the outcome of our futures. It’s time that we use the power of our voice and vote to make the change that we want to see. We all have a voice, we all have a point of view, and we are lucky to live in a country that actually wants to hear what we have to say. All of our voices matter, and it’s important that we use them.
Palm has always believed in the power of connection through voice, which is why we set out to integrate voice-activation technology throughout the device. You can activate voice technology on your Palm with only two clicks of the power button. Get yourself set up for Election Day simply by using the power of your voice on Palm, for example:
Want to know if you are officially registered to vote? Simply tap the power button on the side of your Palm twice and use your voice to ask about local voting registration and deadlines in your city.
Trying to find your local polling location? Simply tap the side button twice and use your voice to ask about how to find your local polling station.
Don’t know how to get to your local polling station? Simply tap the side button twice and ask to pull up directions.
Need help with transportation to your local polling station? Tap twice on the power button to ask to pull up Uber, Lyft or your local city transportation schedule. (Both Uber and Lyft have committed to offering free and discounted rides on November 3rd to polling stations, so don’t let lack of transportation be your excuse not to vote!)
Not sure how to vote on a local proposition or which candidate you want to support? Tap the side button twice to search for more information on candidate information and local props.
Want to listen to a specific playlist or podcast while waiting in line before you cast your vote? Tap the side button twice on Palm and ask your Palm to play your favorite jam.
Show everyone how you voted by snapping a pic and posting it to your social profile. Simply tap the side button twice to pull up IG, FB or wherever you want to share that you exercised your civic duty!
Oh, and be sure to put your Palm in #LifeMode so you aren’t distracted by random notifications while you’re filling out your ballot.
Palm has always promoted the power of connection and it’s more important than ever for us to connect with our local authorities, politicians, communities, community groups and neighbors. With Palm, you can stay connected to what matters most in life, and this election day we encourage you to use your voice, share your voice, and activate your voice to connect with others and make a difference for your future and the world.
This Election Day, we encourage you to #UseYourVoice.
]]>On behalf of Palm, we wanted to thank our #PalmCrew for joining us on this amazing two year journey thus far, on our mission to keep people connected but less consumed with technology. We love hearing all your stories about how Palm has helped strengthen your real life relationships, helped you be more present outside of screens, and encouraged a healthier balance for how technology is woven into your daily lives. Palm and Life Mode is much more than a product or feature, it’s a way of life. We hope you continue to think of Palm as a name that represents how we can help you live a fuller and richer life by connecting you to what matters most.
To honor this two year milestone, we’re offering a free battery accessory with a purchase of a new Palm for your family and friends for a limited time!
Thank you for helping us spread the word. Just like the Palm phone, the Palm team is small but mighty and your voice helps spread our mission to others. We are proud to say that we have the most dedicated and passionate customers a company could ever ask for. Thank you.

]]>With World Mental Health Day coming up on Saturday, it’s important to take a step back and understand how we use our phones today and just how much wasted time we spend on these digital devices. Now 7 months into a worldwide pandemic, our screen time is rising even higher than it was before this crisis, which makes sense since we are all stuck inside. However, we have to pause and take into account how this additional screen time is affecting us. By reducing the amount of time we spend on social media and news sites, we can actually take more control over where we want to put our energy.
At Palm, we talk a lot about Life Mode. For us, Life Mode has two meanings. First and foremost, Life Mode is a feature on Palm that silences notifications and helps to save battery life. However, we also reference #LifeMode as our company ethos. We want to encourage consumers to reevaluate their relationship with their smartphones and take control back over what gets their time and attention.
That’s where Life Mode the feature comes into play. More and more, we’re hearing people say that they are actively trying to disconnect from their tech. At Palm, we support and celebrate this idea. While we are not advocating disconnecting entirely, we invented Life Mode for those times when what’s going on in your real life is more important than those digital moments.
As more people are looking to take control back of their digital lives, we wanted to share some tips and tricks for using Life Mode on Palm.
Life mode is a unique feature that puts you in control of what gets your attention, so you’ll never miss out on life’s most important moments. It’s designed to help you manage your digital notifications so you aren’t needlessly distracted. Life Mode truly lets you connect on your terms by blocking out the noise of our digital lives.
Life Mode puts you in control of what gets your attention, so you’ll never miss out on life’s most important moments. When you have Life Mode turned on, you will not be disturbed by calls, texts or app notifications when your screen is off.
However, turning on Life Mode won’t interrupt your current activity if you’re on a call, streaming music or a podcast, recording your workout, run or ride, or using navigation or GPS apps.
As soon as you wake the screen by tapping the side button, your Palm becomes fully connected and your customized notifications appear. Just like that, you’ve reconnected on your own terms.
One of the best things about Life Mode is that you can choose what gets your attention. By customizing your Life Mode settings, you decide which notifications pop up when you wake the screen.
Simply go to your settings and scroll down to find Life Mode. From there, you can choose which apps are able to notify you when the screen is on. Under “Advanced Options” you can enable or disable apps from notifying you when your screen is on.
We all have times where we need to be reachable and maximize connectivity. It is these times when using the Life Mode timer comes in handy to ensure that you’re getting The Life Mode Timer allows you to temporarily suspend Life Mode so all your calls and notifications come through, even when your screen is off. When the timer is up, Life Mode will resume.
One of the biggest benefits of using Life Mode on Palm is to preserve your battery life. While we intentionally sized Palm down so that it can literally fit into the palm of your hand, we also understood that it meant having a smaller battery in order to fit into the device.
With Life Mode turned on, it turns off the radio signals so your phone isn’t constantly searching for a signal or for incoming notifications to then serve you. Using Palm with Life Mode regularly turned on will help your battery last for multiple days.
Every last detail of Life Mode was designed to help you live in the moment. Show us how you #LifeMode by joining the conversation on social or share your story with us here.
]]>We already know that the #PalmCrew is special. We have absolutely loved hearing from you over the past few months and learning about how you’re using Palm—where you’re taking it, how it helps you disconnect and how it enables you to spend more time outside your screens.
We love following the #PalmCrew on social media to see how users are finding so many unique ways to get the most out of their Palm. People like Laura Rebecca, a yoga teacher, animal lover and gadget nerd, are showing us just how versatile and helpful Palm can be. Here is Laura’s Palm story:
What caught your eye about Palm? What was the motivation for wanting to purchase one?
I've always had an ambivalent relationship with smartphones: since they first came on the market, I've been fascinated by what they can do, and at the same time I curse them for their potential to be intrusive and distracting. I've been on the lookout for years for an alternate phone that has features I can control; I heard about Palm while I was researching such devices. When my main smartphone was sent back for repairs, I opted for a Palm so that I could have access to the basics in a quality handset. Honestly, I use the palm and my main device 50/50.
What are the main ways you use Palm today? What do you use it for most?
Since the pandemic started, I've been spending time at home a lot more (obviously), so there's the danger of drifting off into a scrolling-induced trance. Once I discovered that I can do a lot of essential tasks on my Palm, I started to transition to using that more. I use it most when I go outside to take walks. I try to go for one long walk a day, and with my Palm I can be connected if I need to be (by voice, text or email) and also be able to stop and take a high-quality photo if I want to along the way.
What are the first apps you downloaded on Palm? What are your favorite apps to use on Palm?
Spotify was first, for sure! I have to have my music and podcasts when I take my walks. Then, Facebook Messenger, because a lot of my friends use that instead of texting, but NOT the Facebook app. I love the VoNo app; it's perfect for capturing quick thoughts, voice memos and pictures on the go.
Have you noticed an overall impact on how and when you’re using your main phone? Do you feel more present or less distracted when you’re using Palm?
One thing I've definitely noticed is that, when I get too involved in doing tasks on my phone, I stop and ask myself: should I just switch to the Palm? Could my Palm do this task as well? I definitely feel less distracted because I've made the conscious choice not to put social media apps on the Palm, so yeah. I would like to use the Palm even more than I already do, but I'm very cautious about it becoming just a smaller version of my main phone. I always want it to be the alternative, like a digital vacation house.
What is your favorite thing about Palm?
The adorable size, intuitive interface, screen resolution, and the camera is really good.
What would you like to see different or improved about the product?
Improved Battery life. That would definitely encourage me to use it more. The mophie case helps.
What, if any, accessories are you using with Palm? How do you like them? What other accessories would you like to see?
I use the mophie case, as I said, and the Under Armour case. Both are super high quality, have a nice form factor, and fit well. I'd love something like a mini-pop-socket, or a wallet case so I can bring my credit cards along.
How often do you use Life Mode on Palm? What are your experiences with using this feature?
I have it on all the time. It works so well that I forget it's activated! Maybe that's a good thing...
Would you recommend Palm to others? Why or why not?
Absolutely. It's really great, and very affordable for what it can do. As we grow more dependent on technology, I've found that "less is more". I would recommend it to anyone who wants to spend more time out in the world experiencing life rather than staring at a screen but still enable access to essentials.
Any other feedback you’d like to provide?
I'm grateful to be a part of the #PalmCrew, and I appreciate how Palm listens to and connects with its customers. I've been a Palm fan since the Pilot back in the 90's, and it's awesome to see this new and relevant incarnation of the brand. However, I wouldn't be mad if you did a throwback edition: Palm Pilot 2020 ;-)
Huge thanks to Laura for sharing her feedback with us. We want to hear your Palm story - submit yours today: https://www.palm.com/your-palm-story
]]>We consider our 3.8" size to be one of our best features, and many of our customers agree. Although, it’s hard to understand just how small Palm really is until you see it for yourself. We’ve heard plenty of times how people thought they understood the size, until they actually held it in their hands. “Wow!” is probably the most common response we hear.
Just check out this video if you still don’t believe us:
When you look at the current mobile landscape, we are actually one of the only brands out there today who have intentionally sized DOWN their device. With more and more smartphones getting bigger and bigger, it was actually our intention to create a smaller smartphone – one that could actually fit into the palm of your hand.
We feel that part of the current screen time problem is the fact that our mobile devices are so big and overbearing that the size alone makes it hard to put down and walk away from. What happens is that you end up scrolling for minutes or even hours longer that you had originally intended. Even knowing the dangers of too much screen time, it’s hard to pull ourselves away from whatever video pops up next on YouTube.
With Palm, the size allows you to forget it’s even in your pocket or purse. With access to the entire Google Play Store, you can still get all the functionality, access and connectivity you need, but in a form factor that doesn’t suck you in. We set out with the goal of creating a mobile device that can keep us connected with all the advantages of today's technology, but that doesn't consume all of our time and attention.
Hear from our #PalmCrew users on how they like the size:
“I didn't want to sacrifice features and performance just to go small, and didn't have to with Palm! Awesome so far. Besides, I have strange thumbs that can't reach across more than a 3-4 inch screen, so this little screen is a joy to use, and yet is big enough to show everything in all my apps. Just, wow.” David LaRocque
“I use my Palm as my main everyday phone!! I love it so so much. Small pockets are now no problem at all. I go horseback riding all the time and it is perfect for that being so small and having the lanyard case, I just put it around my neck and ride on!! I also love to take it with me to the gym, it fits so perfectly in the smallest of short/yoga pants pockets.” Cheyenne Holmes
“This tiny little phone can make a huge impact on your life. Sometimes you have to take a step back from reality and ask yourself why things are the way they are. Why do smartphones HAVE to be huge? So you can waste copious amounts of time on them. That's why. The Palm does everything a normal smartphone will do, except control your life. It's like a patient powerful little companion that respects your personal space. There is a time and place for phone usage and the Palm defines that line perfectly. #PalmForLife!” Samuel Morgan Patterson
Just for fun, we thought we would add in even more visual comparisons so you can see for yourself just how small it is.

The battery is the most important part of any smartphone. Let’s be honest, without it, the phone just wouldn’t work. We know that one of the main reasons why anyone purchases a Palm is the small size, yet, that also means a small battery. However, there are several ways to get the most out of your Palm battery, and we wanted to share some helpful tips to make sure you stay charged and connected.
1. Turn off background data syncing. Apps are constantly trying to upgrade, which drains the battery. By turning off this mechanism, you can automatically free up some battery life. You can change this in Settings. By switching this off, you will prevent background syncing of apps, so they only refresh when you open them. With this disabled, your Palm can get over two full days of battery life while on standby, even when Life Mode is turned off!
2. Turn off Wi-fi and Bluetooth antennas when not in use. Did you know that both Wi-fi and Bluetooth can significantly drain the battery even when they're not in use? If you are on-the-go, turning off these connections, can help elongate the battery life on your Palm when you need it most. The icons will be white if they are turned on.
3. Disable apps you do not use. We talk a lot about only using the essentials on Palm, and that's not just because we believe in living life outside the screen! Disabling apps that you're not using can also help save you some juice.
4. Use Life Mode. If you are really anticipating calls or texts, use the Life Mode timer to temporarily suspend Life Mode. Otherwise, Life Mode disables all notifications from coming through and disturbing you while you're busy with your actual priorities. (You can learn more about our Life Mode feature here.)
5. Minimize notifications. Go to Settings > Notifications and turn off notifications for apps you do not frequently interact with. Notifications are the best way to distract yourself from life's important moments, so we encourage you to turn these off in general, but added bonus is it helps increase your Palm's battery life.

We’re excited to announce the launch of two new bundles now available for purchase on Palm.com! We have been listening to the feedback from you, our #PalmCrew, about how you’re using your Palms, the adventures you take, and everything else you would like to be able to do with Palm. It was this very feedback in mind that led us to create these two new bundles that allow you to stay connected, wherever life takes you. So without further ado, check out our two newest offerings:
Our new Cycling Bundle comes with an unlocked Palm phone, a mophie juice pack battery case, a K-Edge Garmin bike mount and KOM Cycling Adhesive Adapter for $329.
We’ve heard from a lot of our fans and users on how Palm is the perfect device for any type of ride! Whether going out to run some errands, heading for your usual ride to get some fresh air, going on an adventure, or training for a cycling team, Palm makes a great addition to any ride! With the K-Edge bike mount (that works well with Garmin, too!) and adhesive adapter, you can clip your Palm in and hit those winding roads and trails without a care in the world - or a bulky smartphone. With Palm, you’ll be able to track your ride, check your performance and take that selfie to prove that you reached the summit.
With GPS, access to the full Google Play Store to download apps such as Strava or Spotify, two cameras, IP68 rated dust and water resistant and complete with voice activation and bluetooth technology, Palm makes the perfect companion for any ride, any time of year.
Hear from some of our #PalmCrew users on their experience hitting the trails with Palm, and check out the Palm review from Bicycling.com here.
Our new Wireless Charging Bundle comes with an unlocked Palm, a mophie juice pack battery case and a mophie wireless charging pad for $319.
No wires, no worries. Our wireless charging bundle keeps your Palm powered up without the tangled mess of wired chargers. Although one of the best things about Palm is its size, with the ability to fit into any pocket, purse or bag, the small size also means it comes with a small battery. With this latest bundle, you can get an extra battery boost for your Palm without having to deal with the hassle of finding the right cords and wires. The best part? The mophie wireless charging pad supports universal wireless charging, charges on contact, and is super lightweight, just like Palm. This new bundle provides a designated spot for your Palm to recharge when you’re in Life Mode.
So whether you’re looking to hit the trails, or to cut the cords, our newest bundles are now available on Palm.com to help you live free and travel light. Happy shopping!

Growing up in a digital world comes with its challenges as both parents and kids are learning, sometimes even the hard way. It can be difficult to regulate our daily technology intake, and similar to sugar, this needs to be regulated in order to make good choices and ensure healthy habits. The impact on our brain and our behaviors have been studied over the years and the data shows us that we all need to learn how to consume properly.
During this current pandemic, we have all leaned even more so into our technology– for entertainment, connecting with loved ones, online education and keeping apprised on the current situation. With everyone at home more, this is a perfect time for parents to model healthy technology habits. Here are five tips on how you can create a positive environment around technology and instill and model healthy habits with your kids and the entire family.
Set screen time limits. Include your kids in a discussion about proper technology usage and setting up the ground rules that make sense for everyone.
Palm makes this easy with Google Family tracking link. With this app, you are able to see how much time kids spend on their favorite apps, including weekly or monthly activity reports. Sit down with your everyone and decide as a family the amount of screen time that is appropriate.
Showcase good digital habits. A lot of parents are working from home during the pandemic. Take this time to model and showcase healthy technology habits for your kids, using technology to care, connect and create. During this time at home, we are all using technology for entertainment but also to connect with loved ones, teachers and to find out important info. However, it’s just as important to put down our phones and other tech devices to have those face to face interactions, distraction and screen-free. Showing your kids that you can use technology to care, connect and create, while knowing when it’s time to put those devices away and carve out time for the people right in front of us, is a great start to keeping healthy relationship habits.
Explore offline activities together. At Palm, we encourage people to go into #LifeMode whenever possible. A term we use to explain the importance to disconnect and recharge. Getting outside is even more important than ever and technology can provide a great starting point for offline experiences. Using technology to research certain hikes and then google maps to get you there is a prime example. Once you have arrived to the hike, encourage them to put away the phones and live in the moment with nature and lookup.
Minimize distractions. School this year has changed for many and learning how to minimize distractions while working, studying, or attending an online class can be challenging. By utilizing tools such as Life Mode on Palm, you are able to minimize your distractions and put more focus into the task you are doing, whether that is running, going for a walk, or studying. Get back to the things that matter in your life without the distractions of your digital life.
Have a discussion about technology. Teach your kids how to be smart, safe and kind on the internet. October is Mental Health Awareness month and a perfect time to speak with the entire family about the effects of bad digital habits and how being smart about usage, being kind to one another, and keeping yourself safe is of the most importance. At Palm, we believe that good phone health leads to good mental health.
By incorporating some of these tips into your daily routine and continuing to have discussions with your family and kids around the importance of healthy digital habits will help them have a better relationship with technology. Take advantage of all this time at home and begin to educate now. Looking for a first phone for your kids, Palm is a great choice.

]]>What made you want to work at Palm?
The values of being disconnected from technology and engaging in the real world are extremely important to me. I want to work with companies that are making an impact and Palm is bridging the gap between athletes, creatives, and innovators in an authentic way. I’ve always been an underdog so joining a small team where everyone does so much is an exciting challenge that I know will offer so much growth and learning opportunities.
What are some ways you go into #LifeMode?
#LifeMode for me is exercise, camping, basketball, reading, creating, and spending time connecting with loved ones. In July I ran 100 miles which helped strengthen my mental health given the roller coaster that 2020 has been. I wish I had my Palm back then to track my runs!
Tell us one interesting fact about you.
I played professional basketball internationally for 6 years on several continents which allowed me to travel to over twenty countries.
What was your favorite place to play?
Costa Rica was easily my favorite place because I won a championship in my first season as a pro, met my current partner, and still have strong relationships with many people there.
What will be your first question when you meet Stephen Curry?
I’ll definitely make sure to ask him to a 3pt contest. I'm a solid shooter so it should be fun.
]]>Here are 5 tips to keep in mind and try to implement to create a better work/life balance:
While we may have had typical work hours that told us when to pack up and head home— or the convenience of the school bell to announce when class time was over, now many of us feel a lack of that clear definition of boundary in our work or study. To help get back in a balanced rhythm, try to set your own boundary for work and study from home. Meetings done by 5? Perhaps try giving yourself the permission to shutdown the computer by 6pm. Whatever your schedule looks like, it’s important to remember to carve out time in your day for yourself— and give yourself the permission to unplug and recharge.
Depending on what’s safe for where you live— try to dovetail tip one with tip two and set times to take walks or just get outside. In his book Digital Minimalism, author Cal Newport speaks to the many benefits of carving out time to take long walks alone, a practice he maintains daily. Newport claims his regular walking actually leaves him not only happier, but more productive “by noticeably large factors”. This is also helpful as research has also shown that taking walking breaks during the work day actually help you think more clearly and be more creative.
When the time comes to be at your desk— be there and be there fully. It's hard to get work done if you’re constantly being pinged and prodded by an onslaught of notifications. Silence any notification that is not absolutely necessary when working or studying— or better yet, switch your phone into airplane mode (or Life Mode!!) to completely drop into the zone and stay in the flow. Less distractions will help you get through studying or your work’s to-do list quicker— meaning more time to get back to the other things in life you’d like to enjoy.
If the temptation remains too great, try leaving your phone and other digital devices in another room completely. Setting a physical boundary like this can help you get more into the zone and help keep work and life more separate and balanced.
Alright, we all enjoy a good scroll through TikTok or our Twitter feed. But if you’re feeling like you’re not getting enough of a break, try going back to paper and reading a book. You can kill two birds with one stone when you choose some of our favorites like Digital Minimalism, by Cal Newport, or How to Break Up With Your Phone by Catherine Price (which comes in our Minimalist Bundle!). These books will not only help you step away from the digital dread for a moment each day, but will also help you set up better long term digital habits to keep you in the balance you strive to achieve.
What other tips do you have for staying safe and staying sane during these trying times? Send us your thoughts or talk to us when you do dip into the realms of social media— we’re sometimes on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook ourselves.
